📚 3 THINGS I LEARNED FROM LIONEL SHRIVER’S EPISODE
1. NO NOVELIST HAS EVER WRITTEN IMMIGRATION FROM THE NATIVE PERSPECTIVE
Lionel is literally the first novelist to write a sympathetic portrayal of the host population in an immigration story. Every other book tells the immigrant’s story, which is implicitly sympathetic. But no one has written about what happens to the people whose consent is never requested when their country changes around them.
She wrote about the loss of culture that natives experience (the same loss we sympathize with when it happened to colonized peoples). But when it happens to Westerners? Suddenly it’s racist.
2. WHITE ETHNO-NATIONALISM WAS INEVITABLE (The Left Created It)
Lionel argues that white ethno-nationalism was a long time coming, and she’s surprised it didn’t emerge sooner.
If you spend 10+ years making it acceptable to criticize white people for their skin color, promote group identity politics, and tell white people they have no culture, then you can’t be shocked when white people start thinking tribally too.
The left pushed racial consciousness for everyone except white people. They just didn’t expect white people to eventually play the same game.
3. THE ELITE THINK MOST PEOPLE ARE DESPICABLE
The majority of people in both the UK and US don’t want mass uncontrolled immigration, don’t want open borders, and are willing to view some immigrant groups as more beneficial than others based on data.
And the elite think these majority views are despicable.
So when Lionel writes a book reflecting what most people actually believe, she gets accused of racism. The “Keep America White” headline wasn’t about what she wrote. It was about elite contempt for ordinary people’s concerns.
